About Josh

Joshua S. Levy writes funny, heartfelt books about growing up.

Finn and Ezra’s Bar Mitzvah Time Loop won a National Jewish Book Award and a Sydney Taylor Honor and was a Golden Kite Award finalist. The Jake Show was also a Sydney Taylor Honor Book and a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection, and both novels were PJ Our Way selections. Josh is also the author of the Adventures of the PSS 118 trilogy, whose first book, Seventh Grade vs. the Galaxy, made an American Library Association notable list for middle grade science fiction. He co-edited, with Chris Baron and Naomi Milliner, On All Other Nights: A Passover Celebration in 14 Stories.

His first nonfiction book, The Bar and Bat Mitzvah Years: Stories of Jewish American Coming of Age, illustrated by Alexander Mostov, arrives from Sourcebooks in August 2027.

Josh was born and raised in Florida. He earned a master’s in Jewish education, taught middle school for a little while, and then went to law school; today he practices law in New Jersey, where he lives with his wife and kids. Since 2019 he has visited schools (many of them Jewish day schools), libraries, synagogues, and book clubs in New York, New Jersey, and beyond.

Josh loves Star Wars, spaghetti and meatballs, and that sound a ring of keys makes when you toss it up into the air. For better or worse, he has never been trapped in a time loop.
